Overview
This is an article to talk about how to get more Chase Business cards. This assumes you have history with Chase already.
Note:
If you do not have a history with Chase, then I highly recommend you go in person, and set up a thing to get a Chase Ink Cash with them. They are highly restrictive to people with no history with them, and can be a pain.
You should in person say you just started your business this year, maybe like 2 months ago. Looking to do 10K in revenue for the year (this is just an “estimation” since you are in your first year of business there is no paper to check). . Your business name is just your own name this should match up to your EIN paper! Please for simplicity sake, keep everything matching your name. Your personal gross annual income is whatever your actual income is. And your expected spend per month on the card, just tell them is 500 dollars.
Refer to this article as to why you need an EIN
First thing first… 5/24 rule
Chase has a 5 personal card in 24 month rule, where if you have opened 5 or more personal cards in 24 months Chase will reject you from personal / business cards (I believe for business too). While business cards do not count towards the limit, this is something you need to be careful about if you’ve opened more personal cards. Can use Credit Karma to double check the cards you have and opening dates.
Second… Apply early in the morning
When applying for a Chase Business Ink Card, you can usually open one every 30-90 days. I personally am aiming around the 45-60 day mark, but I’ve heard people do the 30 day mark.
You want to apply early in the morning, since sometimes the requirement is that you need to call in to verify that you do want to open a business card and that it is you.
Or, sometimes you get rejected, you can call in an “reconn” and ask them to reconsider. Search reddit for more information on “reconn”, but it is doable.
If asked about your business, usually a business earning 2K for a year is good enough is what data points on reddit says, and there isn’t any further proof you need to provide.
Third… Apply for a second card the same day!
If you applied for a Chase Ink Cash in the morning, and maybe you need to call in to get it approved, or you are auto-approved, after, you can immediately ON THE SAME DAY, submit another application for a second different card such as the Chase Ink Unlimited. YOU ONLY DO THIS AFTER BEING APPROVED FOR THE FIRST ONE!! (and must be on the same day)
And if you are using the app for manufactured spending, you can break the SUB for the ink unlimited and at the end of the year, downgrade it to an ink cash!
Apply every 30-90 days:
The data points suggest that at minimum you need 30 days between applications. I plan to aim for 45 days to 90 days, in order to apply for more Chase Ink Cards. Yes - you can have multiple Chase Ink Cards (currently some soft rumors is around 5 max - where if you want more you need to downgrade a higher card like the unlimited / preferred into a cash after a year).
Example Breakdown of what will happen:
What I am talking about below, I believe can be applied as long the two cards are different.
Best Case Scenario:
Apply for Ink Cash
Get approval
Apply for Ink Unlimited
Get approved
Medium Scenario:
Apply for Ink Cash
They ask you to call in to validate
You call in, they ask if you wanted to open it, you confirm
You get approved
After approval on the same day, you apply for ink unlimited > hopefully should be approved
Meh Case Situation
Apply for Ink Cash
Get rejected
Call in to “reconn” trying to convince them to change their mind
Get approved
You apply a second application > hopefully also get approved
Worst Case:
You just get told no matter what you do. 🤷. This is probably if you have no history with Chase.
Why get a Card with an Annual Fee?
While the Ink Cash is no annual fee, maybe something like the Ink preferred does have an annual fee. Well the reason why you might get it, is b/c SUBs (sign up bonuses), are very high velocity ways to earn money. For 8K in spend in 3 months for example, you could earn 120K points right now for the Ink Preferred, which is a 1.2K dollar value minimum. Meaning that the 95 dollar annual fee is more than worth it! Especially, since it’s a pay once > downgrade situation (unless you plan to keep it if the benefits are worth it).
Lower the Credit Extended
If you have a large amount of credit already extended to you by Chase, this might be a reason for rejection. So I actually, requested a -15K credit across my personal cards for maximum balances, to prevent this from happening. Since I don’t for example will ever put 40K spend on a card.
I just called in to do this, supposedly, sending a secure message also works (I just don’t know how to do this).
Cashing out Chase Points
Chase points Ultimate Rewards are able to be cashed out at 1 cent per point, which is the worst way to redeem value, as you can usually net 1.25 at minimum, and Chase points are often valued at 1.5 cent a point through transfer partners. But if you are lazy, this is a minimum value you can give to the points.
Is this strategy good for a first time applicant to the business portion of AMEX? I have never applied for business plat/gold before.
